Eh and Æ

yes, yes, horrible names for a conlang, but they have significance.

Eh is the ancestor of Æ, the first time ive done desendant languages.
Eh uses one vowel phoneme, written with e and ä (a sort of vowel harmony thing with the consonants)
and has a mix of germanic and slavic flavor.
Æ moves from one vowel phoneme to 4, where e and a become distinct, and then combine to make two more phonemes of ea and æ.
they're both verb initial, like celtic languages, and they form tense in an interesting way.

from Eh:
e-I
le-my
eðejen-him
eře-they (ř is a trilled r)
hes-house
zkääler-school
ent-to
geh-be
beh-be(past tense construct)
hejetj-have
gäh-go
embäretj-to be embarrassed (by)

present
gehe ent zkääler.- i go to school.

present progressive
gäh gehe ent le hes. i am going to my house (lit. go be i to my house)

past
gäh behe ent zkääler. i went to school (lit. go been i to school)

past perfect
embäretj hejetjeře eðejen. They have been embarrassed by him. (lit. be embarrassed by have they him.)

Æ:
e-i
læ-my
eðejæn-him
eřæ-they
haas-house
zkallal-school
and-to
ge(g')-be
be(b')-be(past construct)
hejt-have
ga-go
embærjet-be embarrassed (by)

very similar word wise, especially in this short vocab, but there are also a few differences in other words.
present
ga e and zkallal.
i go to school.

present progressive
ga g'e and læ haas.
i am going to my house.

past
ga b'e and zkallal.
i went to school.

past perfect
embærjet hejt eřæ eðejæn.
they have been embarrassed by him.

this is just a rough explanation of my new project, i do plan to make a better show later. =)

Music composition & language creation!

well, I've been productive this spring break!

first item on the list- I've started writing a new piece of music, and i must say, it's turning out quite well! since i only have finale notepad, and can only write a score of 8 parts, i went with flute, oboe, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, french horn, trombone, and tuba for this piece. It has a few sections in it so far (in the 49 measures I've written) that are each about 7-12 measures long. I feel really good about this piece, it has some well intricate parts, and I've used some ideas i learned when i was at an honors band this past weekend. I feel like i can complete this one and have it sounding good in a decent amount of time.

Now on to the language portion...

I started work on a new language yesterday thats the complete opposite (grapheme wise) to CL-4. its called Dharnya, and has no diacritics, only diphthongs and digraphs. its agglutivative (like almost all of my languages) and has a complex gender/class system with 3 numbers. I want it to be both simple and complex.

here's a sample:
Sidlhenoi kaghastos sidlhenoiuo; I am me.
[SiT_henoi kag_haStoS SiT_henoiwo]

Sidlhe-no-i ka-ghastos sidlhe-no-i-uo
1P.class1.sing be.class1 agreement 1P.class1.sing.reflexive

What's the best April Fool's joke you've seen today?

View 500 Answers

Well, we had a band competition, and the word was that the judges were really strict, so we were all nervous. So we go through the performance and sight reading, and then go out to watch them put up the scores (I-IV, I being the highest (superior) and IV being the lowest (poor)) and the guy started off just putting the upper and lower bars on the chart, then he put straight II's across, which we were unhappy about. Then one of the flute players said "oh, april fools, right?" and the guy said "what april fools?" and then colored in one of the IIs. He said "Is that better?" and she (the flute player) said "keep going!" and so he colored in another, and it kept on until we found out we had gotten straight Is, at which point we celebrated uproariously!

ACCESS DENIED

I was sad to find today that livejournal and jotsky are now blocked at school. I am a library assistant second period, and we had the day off from doing anything today, so i sat at the circulation desk browsing the internet and working on some homework, while folding announcements for a reinactment of the wedding in Frankenstein (i dunno, i just did what i was asked to do). so i tried to get on here to browse and see if i had any messages, and it came up as blocked. So then i went to the linguistics section of wikipedia (finding some nice conlang websites) and looked up grammar (mmm, delicious). I decided to take some notes for my conlang, and remembered about jotsky (i just started using it) so i typed in the russian address. It came up, but when i logged in it, too, was blocked =(.

I wish the school boreds would just grow up.

In the market for some things

Well I had my Music School audition at Western Carolina University this past weekend, and it went 'well'...
By 'well' i mean, it was ok... I learned a lot about what i need to do.

After my Audition i got to talk with Dr. Eldred Spell (the flute studio professor) and he told me how my audition went. He said that i had potential, but if i made it in, i would start out on probation. The good thing was that he said that if he could, he would try to get me in, which makes me hopeful, though it isnt one way or the other yet.

He also told me that i need to be in the market for a new flute as soon as possible. I still play on a Selmer beginner student model, and i really need to upgrade to an advanced model. I've been looking at Flute World for a new flute, and I think i might've narrowed it down to either the Jupiter 600 or 700 series (Im looking into a flute thats open-holed, offset G, split E mechanism, with low B footjoint) (I'd really like to get a D# roller too, but ill be fine without it) (if you explore the website the model numbers of what Im looking at are Jupiter 611 RBES and Jupiter 711 RBES). He told me to consult him before making any purchases.

Along with a professional flute, Im in the market for a laptop for college. I've recently set my sights on a Dell XPS M1530, which is about $899 basic (~$30/month) and has some really nice features. But i cant rule out a Mac yet, as I've heard that the music school prefers you having one.im not quite sure yet, but one thing i know is that whatever's cheaper is what I'll be getting.

Now for my wishlist:
Finale 2009- I'm tired of downloading the demo and writing cool pieces, but then not being able to save it, and losing everything I've done. The only problem with it is that it has a $600 price tag, which is a ridiculous amount for a music writing program such as finale (especially when the next step down is about $300-$500 less)

Alto & Bass Flutes- They're just hot, I've always wanted to play different members of the flute family, and alto and bass flutes are the next most common after flute and piccolo.
by the way, they run in the tens of thousands of dollars range.

RPG Maker XP- After my computer crashed, I lost my original copy that i got as a gift, and now if i want it back, Ill have to by it for $60.

Rock Band I & II- because its rockband.. to bad that both of them together would be at least $300.

The money for college- it would be great if it just fell in my lap, a year's payment is about $5,500 total, now add that to about $5,000 x 3 (freshman year you have to choose some more expensive options). Oh well, back to the scholarship applications =(

The internet- Who doesn't want to own the internet?

well, I guess that's it for now, y'all come back now, y'hear? XD

diacritic regularization!

in an attempt to regularize the diacritics of CL-4 (i wish i had a name =/) i changed some of the phonology of the diacritics
ą,ę, and ų are [jA], [je] and [ju], (ę and ų changing there sounds from [eo] and [ue])
also, I've switched around some pronouns.

ERGATIVE
é-I
çıdłä-you (sing)
횜-he
žąmwø-she

kalmłá-we (inclusive)
kïkadea-we (exclusive)
ciðitu- you (pl)
kaddelö-they

ABSOLUTIVE
dra
šadrä
ðíro
tettarä

etrï
cehę
ţegö
çahå

next thing I'll be working on: Verbals!

etc

*I hate when i'm trying to learn the pronounciation of a language and they use english -er, -ir, or -ur as a comparison, such as 'e as in english feather. where i come from, we learn er/ir/ur as one sound and they all sound the same, so its near impossible to separate the vowel sound to know exactly what they mean.

*i finally got around to (and finished) mood on my language! once again i have quite a few, but i've done some different things with it, I've combined some, found ways other than using a particle for a couple, and one has a special construction with its use. I just have to look and see if there's any more grammar i can add at the moment, and then start building vocabulary.

health update

I went to the doctor tuesday (luckily we were out the first two days of the week due to a snow storm that gave us about 7", a huge amount for us to get, whenever we do get snow). They said that it didn't quite look like pneumonia, but it basically was. They had ordered a flu test just to be sure, and it came back negative. The prescribed me some biaxin and tussionex (biaxin to get me better, tussionex for the cough) and they also gave me a steriod shot, which has me feeling much better, and brought my temperature down 3-4 degrees fahrenheit in about an hour (my fever was 101.6 (fahrenheit) when i went tuesday).

I'm Back!/new conlang

so after having my computer crash in december... i finally got my computer back up! but in the process i lost all my files. so, here I am, starting from scratch again, I've started a new project, which is highly unready to be unveiled (its basically vocabulary with a few small bones of grammar). i think i should have it ready soon though (but it'll probably get a bit of criticism due to my fondness of diacritics, and a have a few unorthodox diacritics used in unorthodox ways XD). oh well, tis mine anyways.

from trying to read Ruby/RGSS tutorials.
I really hate it when people who write textbooks and things write them in terminology as if we already know the subject, It really just slows the progress of learning. Im learning RGSS (ruby game scripting system) to be able to write scripts for rpg maker xp, a video game making program.

So far Ive only found one decent tutorial for a basic example of a bonus feature you can add (HUDs, in case you know what that is).

Anyways, Im going to head to bed before I pass out

Writing System: Complete!

I've just finished making my writing system for my new language. I've yet to get it on the computer, but I plan on getting it up on conlangs when I get it fine tuned (I need to break it in a little for ease of writing and familiarity)

It took me a while to get ideas for the symbols of each letter, but i finally got it. I would like to cite Omniglot and wikipedia for giving me ideas for it, and also allchars for giving me the symbol for the letter 'a'.
The US Government Fails (Rant)

Im currently listening to the news on TV and what i hear makes me hate the US (my home country) even more than i thought possible.

Im hearing that the government is stopping us from developing clearner technologies in coal, drilling near the coast or even developing further into nuclear energy. But while they are doing this, Europe is running on nuclear and electric technologies, china is drilling off the coast of key west into large amounts of oil deposits, and brazil is becoming energy independent.

This brings up a very good question: WHAT THE FUCK DO THOSE IDIOT SON OF A BITCHES IN D.C. THINK THEY'RE DOING?!

because of all this, gas prices are around $4 a gallon (in the 1990s they werent even $1.50). As Ben Stein phrased it, "The government is blocking the supply of oxygen to the american economy, and the american citizens need to stop the government and get their oxygen supply back."

This information really brings concern to me (who will soon be thrown into the unforgiving adult world, and will have to deal with the crap the government has thrown us into.)
I truely believe that there needs to be a stand taken against the idiocy of the government, and for us to bring in people who have COMMON SENSE and will save us from the nearing depression that will surely be caused by the current heads of the country. I plan on reading through the constitution (through any means that i can find it) and seeing if there is anything that states that the citizens can confront the government to stop them from taking over a totalitarian control (which i feel that the current government is trying to do).

/rant off for now >=(

Last Week of School

So, today marked the beginning of the last week of school, it also meant i got to sleep in until 10am, since i was "exempt" from my first exam. today was 3rd period exam and 1st period review.
When i said exempt from my first exam, what i really mean is that i had taken my finals early, so i didnt have to come in til the end (we're not allowed to be exempt from our band finals, our directors rule).
in first period review, first period being my college psychology class, we ended up having to take our abnormal psychology quiz, since for the past 2 semesters we've been alternating abnormal and developmental psychology.
The test was a short 100 question quiz that we finished in no time, and afterwards we ordered out pizza for lunch and watched <i><u>A Beautiful Mind</u></i>. Tomorrow is the 1st period exam and 2nd period review, so for 1st, we'll be taking the Developmental Psychology exam and then watch <i><u>Sybil</u></i>, one of my favorite movies.

Aside of school, I've been trying to get back into conlanging. My second major language, Òlérneß, has been intriguing me and Ive been somewhat "craving" to get back to it. (my major language projects are Laetilyan, Òlérneß, and a yet to be named romance-based language. But I also have had other miniscule side projects, and also have found some from when i was much much younger (which had surprised me, as i had not realized exactly how long Ive had an interest in language & linguistics). My earliest project is called Dòminsque, and is a nice little language which i do hope to get back to one day...).
My only issue with getting reaquainted with the language is that Im missing a large portion of my previous work. Ive been able to find bits in pieces stored on my computer, on livejournal, and also in a notebook where i originally laid out the framework. Unfortunately for me it turns out that i had began it again in another notebook, and proceeded to get much further and give much more intricate detail on the machanics of the language.
What I've been doing to try and locate my missing notebook is inventory all the notebooks ive used within the past year or so (I rely on notebooks VERY heavily), which is proving to be somewhat difficult. As i have a tough time keeping focus on anything for any length of time, I tend to spread everything all around.

new classes

so i started the 2nd semester of my junior year (high school) yesterday, and so far i've found my classes.... well... interesting.....

first period i have psychology (college level). I can already tell Im gonna love that class, because the teacher is so much fun. the class covers general psychology, abnormal psychology, and developmental psychology, so i can earn 9 credit hours from that class.

second period is AP English, and, i have the craziest (and longest teaching) English teacher in the school (she likes to talk with very bad grammar though). She likes to give a lot of work, mostly in grammar (since we've never been taught it in previous grades) and shes very particular on how things are done. I have a feeling that itll be like US history all over again

Third period is my all time favorite class, band. this semester my band director has 3 periods, so it makes our group pretty small. My class is all the junior and most of the sophmores. We also have 1st lunch this year, so that rocks.

Fourth period is Physics. I like science, particullarly astronomy, and it derives from physics, so it seemed like an interesting class to take. so far we've only reviewed some stuff from chemistry so we havent really done much yet, but im looking forward to it. oh, this is also my smallest class, theres only 7 people in it, and 2 are juniors, the rest are all seniors.

so those are my classes jthis semester. next year (my senior year) im plan on looking into doing dual enrollment and take classes at the community college during the school day (i only have 3 required classes next year: band IVA/IVB, and AP English 12)
